This Day In History: 1832-07-30

French chemist John Antoine Chaptal, who authored the first book on industrial chemistry, and coined the name “nitrogen”, died aged 76. Chaptal also helped improve the technology used to manufacture sulfuric acid, saltpetre for gunpowder, beetroot sugar and wine, amongst other things.
